Repurposing My Plastic Garbage Bin

The day came when I was looking through Instagram and came around to finding out about this new Instagram page called @hklivingusa.

I looked through their page and decided to just take a look at their website to see what they have to offer.

I just scrolled through and liked their products. Then I came to seeing their rugs and one of the first ones they had up was this one! This diamond patterned bath rug.

Well, I decided to get it since it was around my budget, why not? (Remember my $35 budget finds)? Now that I have purchased a bath mat I will need a new garbage bin!

My Penny Pinching Self couldn’t bear to buy a new garbage bin; especially, since I had already made a “big” (big for me) purchase on that rug. And I already own a garbage bin. It just needs to be spruced up a bit.

I went to my local hardware store and purchased Melina rope that cost me about $8. I already had the paint, paint brush, glue gun, glue sticks, and the sealer ready to make my repurposing project.

I posted a time lapse video of the whole process if you want to follow me on Instagram. I think the diy garbage bin turned out so nice. Don’t you think?

I love the fact that I am able to use what I have without being wasteful. Plus, the Manila rope is biodegradable and recyclable and so is my black plastic garbage canister that isn’t looking so drab anymore! Win-win!! And I saved myself some dinero! (That means money in Spanish).

Now I’m excited to tackle on some more DIYs. Especially to make this winter weather here in New England a little more bearable by keeping busy. I can’t wait for Spring!!

I almost forgot to mention about that fragrance spray I received along with the rug. I got to talking to one of the people running the business, and she sent me this fragrance to try with my rug purchase. Wasn’t that so sweet of her? The spray smells like the real thing. As if I’m scenting a whiff of a blossoming orchard. My daughter didn’t care for it, but then again she’s 10 and has never been in the middle of a blossoming orchard. Hmmm… that gives me an idea! I’m gonna have to look for a local orchard farm and take all my kids. Then they will appreciate the scent. Yum!

If you’re on Instagram you can follow the company @hklivingusa. And guess what? I’ll be doing a little collaboration with her soon and I’ll be posting all about it here in my blog and Instagram. Stay tuned!
